Application Checklist

STEP 1 – Admission

Complete and return the Application for Admission.

Complete and return the Certification of Selective Service Registration.

Complete and return the Certificate of Eligibility for In-State Residency.

Mail or deliver a transcript request form to your high school.  They will mail an official copy of your high school transcript to Lawson State.

Mail or deliver a transcript request form to any other postsecondary institutions (colleges) you may have attended.  They will mail an official copy of your college transcript(s) to Lawson State.

STEP 2 – Placement Testing 

Associates Degree Applicants ONLY!

All students who intend to register for credit courses leading to an Associate Degree must take the COMPASS test.

Compass Testing Schedule (Bessemer Campus):

Monday 9:00 a.m. / Wednesday 9:00 a.m. / Thursday 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. / Saturday 9:00 a.m. (first Saturday of each month only).

STEP 3 – Advising/Scheduling

Meet with the program coordinator to enroll in classes.  Students will receive a printout of their course schedule and the cost to attend for the semester from their advisor.

STEP 4 – Financial Aid/Scholarships

Take the printout of your course schedule to the Office of Student Financial Services if you are using any type of financial aid to cover your tuition. 

 
This applies to the following financial assistance programs:
·         Grants – Federal PELL, College Work-Study, SEOG, ASAP
·         College Sponsored Scholarships
·         External Scholarships
·         Special Programs
·         Veteran’s Programs

The Office of Student Financial Services will process your paperwork and issue an award letter for your use in Step 5.

STEP 5 – Business Affairs

Pay your Tuition and Fees

Take the printout of your course schedule, and any award documents from Financial Services, to the: 

Birmingham campus – Business Affairs Office, Arthur Shores Fine Arts Building (gym)
Bessemer campus – College Cashier’s Office (Bookstore) in the Student Services Center, Building A 

Once your Tuition and Fees are paid you will receive a Schedule Confirmation receipt form.

NOTE: All tuition and fees are due at the time of registration.  A student is not officially registered until tuition and fees are paid or assumed by financial assistance. 

STEP 6 – Student ID’s & Parking

Present your copy of the Schedule Confirmation at the ID station to have a Student ID and Parking Decal made.  ID cards will not be made without a copy of the student’s Schedule Confirmation.

Bessemer campus – Student Services Center, Building “A”, College Cashier/Bookstore lobby

College personnel will initial the Schedule Confirmation and issue your ID card

*Initial cost for ID and Decal (no fee)
*Cost to replace student ID cards - $25
