Lawson State
Community College and the Alabama Center for Automotive Excellence are offering
free dual-credit enrollment for existing high school students using federal
grant monies.
Tuition, fees and field
trip charges are covered in full for qualifying students.
You must be a current
sophomore or junior - graduating classes 2011 and 2012 - with a cumulative GPA
of 2.5 or higher to qualify.
To enroll you must
complete the Lawson State Community College "Application
for Admission" and have your Principal and Superintendent sign the
"Accelerated/Dual Enrollment High School Student Form". Once you complete
the application packet, mail it to:

AUM 101 – Fundamentals of
Automotive Technology
Meets June 7th thru June 17th
Monday-Thursday from 8:00-4:30
Field trip to the Mercedes Assembly
Plant
Description: This course provides
basic instruction in Fundamentals of Automotive Technology. It is the required
entry-level class for all automotive disciplines.
AUM 124 – Engine Repair I
Meets June 21st thru
July 1st
Monday-Thursday from 8:00-4:30
Field trip to local Machine Shops
Description: This course provides
instruction on the operation, design, and superficial repair of automotive
engines. Emphasis is placed on understanding the four stroke cycle, intake and
exhaust manifolds and related parts, engine mechanical timing components, engine
cooling and lubrication system principles and repairs, and basic fuel and
ignition operation.
AUM 130 – Drivetrains and Axles
Meets July 12th thru
July 22nd
Monday-Thursday from 8:00-4:30
Field trip to Barber Motorsports
Museum
Description: This course provides
basic instruction in automotive drive trains and axles. Emphasis is placed on
the understanding and application of basic internal and external operation
relating to proper operation and driveability.
AUM 133 – Motor Vehicle Air
Conditioning
Meets July 26th thru
August 5th
Monday-Thursday from 8:00-4:30

Description: This course provides
basic instruction in theory, operation, and repair of automotive heating and air
conditioning systems. Emphasis is placed on the understanding and repair of
vehicle air conditioning and heating systems, including but not limited to air
management, electrical and vacuum controls, refrigerant recovery, and component
replacement. |
